Who?
My name is Catherine and I like to feed people. And buy novelty-shaped vegetables.
I love cooking and (mostly) baking, and try to make new and tasty things every week in my kitchen in the city. I’ve started this blog so I can document all of them, as well as my food- and booze-related adventures in Dublin, where I live, and further afield.
My (sporadic) non-food-related ramblings can be found over here, and my Twitter feed here. All tips, recipes, witticisms or other missives are very welcome, too! Please send ‘em on to backpedalbrakes <at> gmail <dot> com.
On runcible spoons
Edward Lear’s fictional owl and pussycat are famed for dining “on mince and slices of quince, which they ate with a runcible spoon.” As far as I can tell, a runcible spoon isn’t a real thing, but I like to imagine it as a very elaborate sort of spork. Hence my blog header, designed by the excellent Annie Atkins.

I’d always thought a runcible spoon would be made of wood!
